A culture that permeates every square inch

Every company has a culture and a personality. The second you pass through the doors you get a vibe and a feeling. You get a sense of the kind of people who work there.

At North Star Marketing we didn’t overtly create a culture. It created itself. But since we are in the idea business, that culture is a far cry from conservative. Whether it’s the music in the halls from our personal playlists, the purple and green gumball machine, or the chocolate jar [that as part of our covenant must never be empty] may give you your first clue. Or maybe what will tip you off will be our brightly painted walls and furniture, the funky light fixtures of test tubes or light bulbs, or the collaborative areas: the “Living Room,” the “Creative Cafe,” or the “Men’s Room” (sorry, you’ll have to visit to understand). Or you may feel it if you come in when we are all eating lunch together, celebrating a birthday or taking ice cream, popcorn, or Starbucks breaks.

North Star is truly different in a good way. Office politics and gossip are a big no-no. Laughing is mandatory. Respect is demanded. Colorful and smart debates are encouraged. Thinking beyond ourselves at work and in the community is important. And we do our best to check our egos at the door.

Our industry is filled with stress. That’s what happens when client deadlines govern your “To Do List.” While we all work hard at North Star, we all also work hard to make it relaxed and open. Hence the popcorn machine, pilsner glasses and the beer fridge in the Creative Cafe. Combined, they seem to be well-used on Fridays that end especially busy weeks.

Our office is an extension of our culture.
