DOT program for disadvantaged businesses
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has launched Mission 360 Degrees as part of its continuing effort to encourage disadvantaged business enterprises to participate in transportation contracts. Mission 360 Degrees is a comprehensive approach to business development specifically designed to address the needs of these businesses. Financed by the Federal Highway Administration, the program will enable disadvantaged businesses to bid on highway construction and other transportation projects on equal terms with major corporations by providing supportive services. The program provide technical assistance and development training, creating the potential for sustained growth and success. The program uses a team of companies, including Plexus, North Star Marketing and Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, to provide a variety of assistance, including formulating actions plans, providing training and providing greater access to resources. To qualify for DBE assistance under the program, people must own 51 percent or more of a small business, establish that they are disadvantaged within the meaning of Department of Transportation regulations, and prove they control the daily operations of their business. << Back to News |
