Want to see your name in print? Try writing a byline article.

May 23, 2008

Getting an article published is a great way to generate awareness of your company.

Womens Business BostonMany consumer and trade publications print articles written by business people to give their readers an "expert" perspective. There are many benefits to doing this, including the opportunity to establish yourself as a subject expert and thought leader, increase exposure of your company, and demonstrate your involvement in current issues and trends.

For example, our President and Visionary, April Williams, recently wrote the article "Integrate Social Media with your Traditional Marketing Strategy" for Women's Business Boston.

Steps to getting a byline article published:

  1. Pick a Publication: Look for the right fit for your industry and expertise. Which type of readers would find your perspective of value?
  2. Develop a Message: What do you want to say or convey to readers?
  3. Pitch Your Idea: Research the publication to make sure it is in line with your message, and reach out to the publication to check interest.
  4. Write the Article: Present the reader with a problem and recommend a solution, or talk about a lesson learned. Remember that it should be of value to the reader.
  5. Don't Be Promotional: A blatant or even subtle attempt to promote your company could result in the article being severely edited or thrown out.

Once you're published, use the article to promote your business. Include reprints in your press kit, post the article on your website and include a link in your eNewsletter.
