You may notice that The Compass is a little different this week...

October is breast cancer awareness month. It's a staggering reality that one out of every eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. With 12 females working here at North Star, the statistic suggests that nearly two of us may be diagnosed one day. But, our futures are hopeful; there is a 97% survival rate for breast cancer caught in stage one. That's why we've partnered with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation and turned The Compass pink this week, just like the Foundation will turn the Rhode Island State House pink tomorrow night at the 3rd Annual "Flames of Hope" Waterfire event.

Anthony Gemma, founder of the Foundation, has known North Star Marketing for years. So when he needed help to drive visibility about this cause and this event he turned to us.

  • We've designed the "Got 2" campaign logo, reminding women of the things they've Got 2 do! The "2 Breasts. 2 Minutes. Day 2 of Each Month." tagline that we developed for the t-shirt reminds women that it only takes a few minutes to perform a self breast exam and encourages them to pick the 2nd day of each month so they always remember.
  • The cheeky "Bust Cancer" slogan we developed stands strong as the chosen slogan for this year (each year we will unveil a new slogan to encourage women to fight the good fight!)
  • We've also worked side-by-side with the Foundation to generate the media coverage for the event.

Tshirt Compass101008And best of all we are attending the event so please join us this Saturday, October 11, at 5:30pm to see members of the North Star team carrying a torch in the opening procession, working the media, and proudly wearing our "Got 2 Bust Cancer" t-shirts to support this great cause! We hope to see you there.
