
The best marketing and advertising are able to take advantage of a trend. “Farm fresh”, “organic”, and “locally grown” are currently all national trends in the supermarket category. The state of Rhode Island saw the opportunity to rally support and awareness around the state’s local farms, farm stands and retail outlets to coincide with the national trends.
In 2009, North Star Marketing was hired by the state to develop and implement a statewide campaign to increase consumer awareness regarding Rhode Island grown specialty crops. We named the program “Get Fresh. Buy Local”. The name was the basis for everything we did. And we mean everything--from bumper stickers and t-shirts, to life size vegetable mascots (proudly worn by our own staff and interns) and social networking.
The campaign has been an enormous success when measured by sales, awareness and public acceptance.
